Architectural Design
Elegant buildings begin with thoughtful design.
My work often includes helping clients design buildings that are both practical to build, and deeply satisfying to live with. In many cases this design work happens as part of a larger mentorship, guiding a client from the first idea through the process of building.
Good buildings are simple, durable, and carefully proportioned.
They respond to their site, use honest materials, and are designed in a way that allows them to be built clearly and confidently. My design work is strongly influenced by traditional building traditions, where beauty and practicality were never separated.
Depending on the project, design work may include:
• building layout and floor plans
• elevations and proportions
• structural concepts and building systems
• materials and construction approach
• drawings to guide the building process
The goal is always to create a design that is both beautiful and buildable.
Design and Mentorship
Many of the projects I work on involve both design and mentorship. In those cases, the design evolves alongside the building process. Instead of separating design from construction, we develop the project step by step so that decisions remain practical and grounded in the realities of building. This approach keeps the process clear and allows the builder to stay deeply engaged in creating the work.
Good buildings come from a combination of clear design, thoughtful craftsmanship, and steady guidance throughout the building process.
